Where Has The Music Gone????

Today....Thinking....Listening.......Mr. Radio you are on yet nothing is playing. I hear spurratic notes and chords are being pushed through the speakers in my car. I patiently await a song to come on with a theme or somewhat of a progression in imagery through lyric and nothing happens. I remember the 70's groups like Earth, Wind, and Fire, The Average White Band, The Doobie Brothers, The Emotions. The sang with lyrical content, passion, and emotion. The bands of the 80's such as Hall and Oates, Cindi Lauper, Madonna, Prince, and the incomparable Micheal Jackson were yet expressive but innovative in transitioning sound to a new generation and continuing to tell a story through music. The 90's generation carried the mantle to a new high the "Hip Hop Era" this era just as expressive as the decades before merging many different styles of music to carve a new niche. This leaves me to these questions, what is the progression of the music today? Is Lil Wayne and Drake the future of rap and hip hop? Will Britnae Spears or Katie Perry be the leaders of the pop culture? Does true R & B exist anymore? Exactly where has the music gone? I would love to hear your thoughts on this.......

  1. Yessir, this dialogue is something that is necessary in todays time. If you look at todays music industry there is nothing positive to inspire or make listener think. There's a small amount of "individuals" that are truely standing for something. Also there seems to be a lack of continously successful groups of any kind, from R&B to hip-hop to even pop. I mean what happened to all the boy bands. Did our society of instant commercialism destroy these boys dreams. And not only is hip-hop dead due to the over use of the vocoder,or T-Pain Effect, but R&B as well. Although there are a few who are holding it down, such as Ne-Yo and Trey Songz, is it possible to get back to basis, singing a heartfelt ballad with trying to get into someone's pants? What happened to the stuff I grew up on, the Luther, the 90's Mariah. Forget the automakers, Mr. Obama, the music industry needs a bailout!

  2. I HAVE THE SAME THEORY AS MALCOLN X BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.WE HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT SATIN/LUCIFER WAS IN CHARGE OF MUSIC,AND HE IS HERE TO DO WHAT? KILL,STEAL,AND DESTROY SO WE HAVE TO FLIP THE SCRIPT ON HIM,HE IS NOT THAT BRIGHT TO BEGIN WITH.WE HAVE TO MEET PEOPLE WHERE THEY AT.AND IF DOING CHRISTIAN/HIP HOP WILL BRING A SOUL TO CHRIST THEN LET'S DO THE DAMN THANG!

  3. I feel the same. I think music is evolving just as the world is evolving. People are changing so music changes. In the 80's people were different that had more love than people do today. I mean just look at the media. The media displays that life is good if there is money, cars and clothes..So people sing, rap and talk about just those things..The question is what happen to love? Because love comes out in our music.

  4. now this is my kinda talk. I am sure that everyone has those memories of when we were all knee high to lassie and out parents grandparent you know the ole folks would be listening to blues you can use or some marvin gaye, betty wright, or gap band. Those were the groups that made me wanta get grown so I could go to parties and sang and dance because you know if you got caught singing those lyrics you would get a beat down but uh.... back to what i was saying music has lost its substance my son loves old school and he'd better because i swear if he asking me what is a clean up woman is im going to scream.lol. I am going to say this and my goodness I never thought I would say this but in OUR day music made you feel good to be Black, and if you were struggling it could be a pick me up or what if you were heartbroken there were songs that told you everything from how to heal that brokenheart, to getting a mr. do right, or how to blame it something other that the alcohol.. it just made you feel good bout yo self....i know i could go on and on but ima stop here......Mecie

  5. sex sells in today's society...music is changing because people are changing, it seems like if you have music that has something relating to sex in it, booty poppin club music that's gonna make people be all up on each other, guys talking bout getting money and females at the same time having a sexy video to go with it....in today's society, you have a "hit"....the devil is busy....if he can't get us thru our families, he's trying to get us thru music (ears), if it's not thru music, it's thru tv (eyes)......God says that we have to guard our eyes and ears...sin is just seeping in and a lot of people are lost...as long as people is making their money off their songs, they really don't care if it's going against their beliefs, all they see are $ signs....I watched Black In America and Nelly was on there saying this very thing (so he says) - he says he does that type of music and videos because that's what the fans respond to - that's not how he does things, but that's what's paying the bills....back in the day, people were coming together, united for a cause, they loved one another - today, it seems like people are only out for self....that's where the inspiration for their music stems from - what's gonna make the quickest buck.....
