I was engaged in a conversation today about the relevance of Christian Rap/Christian Hip Hop
that provoked my thoughts
The census of the conversation was what is Christian Rap/Christian Hip really and why in the church?
and he went to outline in the conversation opposition to what Gospel/Christian Hip-Hop faces....
It is my belief that music is the gift..from the creator..
God speaks in a today generation voice..The voice of Mahalia was my grandmothers rap...The voice of my great aunties and uncles was the changing chord to a more contemporary three part harmony of the choir by Mattie Moss Clark..The rap of the generations gone by was that of Thomas A. Dorsey a man who revolutionized gospel as we know it.
I feel we need to allow God's word to flow freely..speak in accordance of today's timing!
I challenge my bros and sisters who do not see or hear this as an art form..check it out..HE THAT HAS AN EAR>:::::LET HIM HEAR!
You can personally go to my myspace page and you will hear a mixture of artist..From ProzperaD-a up and coming Christian Rapper..spitting truth giving GOD all Glory and Honor..to NEO SOUL Christian artist Lisa McClendon playing on my Page "But for Eternity"-A lovesong to the Father..to my big bro in the game G. Mayes and N.E. doing "Hit the Deck"-Givin you bump musik..reppin the Kingdom!
I would like to hear your thoughts on this topic, you ideals, and opinions. Please speak freely but let's be respectful of one another. Yo..let's talk......

I believe that there is nothing wrong with Christian Rap or Holy Hip Hop!! Our contemporary gospel artsits such as The Clark sisters, Mary Mary or Yolanda Adams are only gonna reach so many ppl! Da' Truth or Lacrae may reach someone that Yolanda Adams or Mary mary will never reach because its presented in different way, but with the same mssg!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is my belief that it does the church no good to be so heavenly minded that we are of no earthly good. If we are approaching Rap/Hip Hop as simply a genre, then I don't see the harm in it. Hopefully it will reach a wider audience and spread the Gospel into places it normally would not reach. What I do take issue with, however, is when the Church attempts to conform to carnal/world like culture. I don't think that we should have "Holy Thugs". And I don't subscribe to "Hip Hop Church" or things that detract from the seriousness of salvation.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Christian Hip Hop and Rap is so much needed in the church today. Those that win souls are what "WISE" These artist are using their skills to win souls for the Kingdom. Make sure that there is some scripture in those lyrics. Don't be another hip hop/rap artist out there reaping for JESUS with no word. God bless and thanx for listening. Much love to my brotha Rico!!!
ReplyDeleteI do not like Christian rap; however I am not opposed to it. I believe that if you are going to put under the "Christian" umbrella then it needs to be that and talk about Jesus. The problem is that we sing songs or rap songs or whatever and it is questionable to whether it is secular or christian. There needs to be a difference. I can see both ways though. Someone else who might oppose it would probably say because there is no diff than the world and the bible says there needs to be a diff between clean and unclean holy and unholy. So I can understand that because it has only been in the world for so long but has now made its way into the church. Everybody is not able to sing and run up and down the scale with runs or write the years best mass choir song but can effectively get the point that Jesus is the way the truth and the life through a rap song. I think that as long as we are making a difference and not trying to portray the world in our efforts of getting the word out about Jesus then we are ok. That is just my opinion.
